We have had a fun day, taking advantage of the tail end of this storm to go out and do some rough water boat handling tuition today. The wind tailed off just as the tide turned but the sea out by The Needles was still good and high - the video clip shows us on the way out in an 8.4 metre Redbay rib.
Rough water is something that we all hope we don't get caught out in, but it is good to know how to deal with it safely just in case you are ever wrong-footed. It is part of the syllabus of the RYA Advanced Powerboat Course and we quite often also run bespoke powerboat courses and training for anyone with some experience who is interested in acquiring rough weather skills. We don't ever encourage anyone to go out looking for trouble, but if ever you do find yourself out in deteriorating conditions, having an understanding of what to do, what not to do, and how to get into a safe haven as quickly as possible can help to keep you and your crew safe.
If you would like to find out more about any of our Powerboat courses, Motor boat training, or any of the related theory courses we run do call or email us.
